Research Associate/Senior Research Associate/Scientist I – Cell Biology


Amphivena Therapeutics, Inc. is an immuno-oncology company based in South San Francisco, CA that is developing best-in-class T-cell engagers. The company’s lead drug candidate, AMV564, is a bivalent T cell engager that relieves immune suppression through selective depletion of MDSC. AMV564 has demonstrated single-agent activity in both hematologic and solid tumor malignances. Amphivena’s mission is to eradicate cancers with breakthrough therapies that harness the patient’s own immune system to destroy tumor cells and their precursors.



Amphivena is seeking a motivated researcher to work in the development of novel therapeutics harnessing the immune system to eliminate cancer. We are building a small but enthusiastic team where everyone’s contributions are meaningful. As the ideal candidate, you will be excited to help us understand the biology of immune suppression while advancing our pipeline, and your contributions to lead discovery and optimization will be accomplished through the exploration of fundamental biology in immune oncology. You will have a good command of molecular biology techniques, proficiency in common cell culture, and a solid understanding of multi-color flow cytometry. Previous experience must demonstrate an ability and desire to be a strong and collaborative individual contributor in a multi-functional team.



  • Develop suitable assays to evaluate the impact of T cell engagers and related molecules on T cell activation and modulation of the T cell repertoire
  • Evaluate the impact of current and new pipeline molecules on myeloid suppressor cell biology and tumor targets
  • Support the production of antibody reagents and protein therapeutics using molecular biology and cell culture techniques
  • Develop and implement procedures for analysis of candidate therapeutics using various techniques including flow cytometry, ELISA, immunofluorescence
  • Analyze patient-derived samples using techniques such as ELISA and flow cytometry
  • Work independently and make contributions to advance selection of therapeutic candidates
  • Maintain accurate and up to date laboratory records
  • Prepare reports and contribute data to both internal and external meeting presentations
  • Proactively remain informed with respect to relevant scientific literature
  • Promote a science-driven, goal-oriented culture with innovation, accountability and transparency



  • M.S. or B.S. with 6+ years of relevant experience or Ph.D. in molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology or a related field with 2+ years of experience
  • Extensive hands-on experience in cell and molecular biology (required) and immunology (preferred) including in vitro and ex vivo culture of primary cells and cell lines, ELISA, flow cytometry, T cell and myeloid cell assays
  • Experience in development and implementation of assays to quantify cytokines, chemokines, and other relevant factors in human samples
  • Demonstrated track record of contributions to de novo assay development
  • Experience in working with antibodies and related analytical processes; experience with bispecific antibodies and/or T cell engagers preferred
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Record of accomplishment as evidenced by inclusions on publications, patents or public presentations
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, organization, multitasking and demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative research environment; experience in small companies or start-up settings is a bonus
